Town Planning Updates
The Fuquay-Varina Town Board has adopted both the 2022 Pedestrian Plan and the 2040 Land Use Plan.
The 2022 Fuquay-Varina Pedestrian Plan builds upon the 2013 Pedestrian Plan, which saw an incredible 78 miles of sidewalks, 5 miles of side paths, and 8 miles of greenways constructed in Fuquay-Varina after its adoption. Many of these miles can be found in new subdivisions.
As part of the study, residents were asked to provide feedback through the Town’s “Let’s Talk FV” community engagement site. More than 200 comments were received on the interactive map with key themes emerging, such as connecting downtown, subdivisions, and schools; and improving crossing at high volume/speed roadways. More than 430 people took the survey, with 83% of respondents indicating that improving walking conditions in Fuquay-Varina is very important to them. The 2022 Pedestrian Plan sets priorities based on this feedback and makes recommendations for implementation.
The updated 2040 Community Vision Land Use Plan provides more focus and clarity regarding the community’s expectations for the character, quality, and mix of development in the town’s planning jurisdiction. The public weighed in on the plan over three months through the Town’s “Let’s Talk FV” community engagement site.
Some overarching concepts of the updated Land Use Plan include:
Balancing the ratio of residential and non-residential uses by increasing opportunities for the future development of non-residential uses.
Providing quality housing choices.
Supporting compatible development with appropriate site transitions.
Creating comprehensive, connected, and continuous open spaces.

Join Storm Walter’s Team in Keeping Fuquay-Varina Clean!
Every spring, Town of Fuquay-Varina employees get involved with a Litter Sweep of local highways and greenways to promote public awareness of one of our most significant pollutants—LITTER. The effort paid off! The team picked up 67 bags of trash, eliminating 1,600 pounds or 5,000 pieces of unsightly garbage from our roadways and streams.
You can get involved in helping to reduce litter, too! The Town partners with Wake County Big Sweep and NCDOT’s Litter Sweep to assist citizens who want to form litter pickup groups. We can provide all the materials your group will need for a successful litter sweep; you provide the workforce! We’ll even throw in some surprises for your group’s efforts. For example, group leaders get a free Storm Walter tee shirt. As it starts to get a little cooler, Litter Sweep events are a great way to help keep Fuquay-Varina clean as well as to get outside and have fun with others.
The Litter Sweep program is part of the Town of Fuquay-Varina Public Education & Outreach and Public Involvement & Participation programs to educate the community about the impacts of stormwater discharges on local water bodies and the steps that help to reduce stormwater pollution.
Visit FVStormwater.org to learn more about forming a Litter Sweep group and how you can join Storm Walter’s Team to Keep Fuquay-Varina Clean. If you haven’t met Storm Walter yet, check out the town’s video series, You Know What Else Is Important? to learn more about stormwater, stormwater pollution, and stormwater pollution prevention.
