Wondering how to spend that perfect romantic evening on the town? Here’s some great ideas that are sure to make the perfect evening.
Downtown Stroll
Start the evening off with a trip to Artistic Expressions art gallery on Raleigh Street on the 2nd Friday of every month for a wine and cheese reception for their Artist-of-the-Month. After checking out the art scene in downtown Fuquay-Varina and chatting with local painters, photographers, jewelers, and potters, stroll over to Anna’s Pizzeria for a slice of heaven (or pasta) in a quiet, down-to-earth Main Street atmosphere. Completely sated on Italian fare, you can drop in next door at The Mill for an after-dinner drink or a specialty coffee. The Mill often has live music on Friday nights, so it’s a great way to end the evening without having to move your car.
Theater Night
Meander through Mineral Springs Park at sunset, enjoying the brand new walking trails, and reading about the origins of our wonderful town. When you’ve finished drinking in the history of Fuquay-Varina, walk a block up the hill to Beef `O’ Brady’s on the corner of Main Street for a drink and hearty meal in the Irish pub-inspired sports bar. You might even see the Mayor there! After dinner, slip out the back door and across the street to STARS Theater and Arts Center to see the current community theater presentation – could be Miracle on 34th Street, Steel Magnolias, or Arsenic and Old Lace. It could also be an art auction or an open mic night for poets and writers. Compete your evening with a glass of wine while you enjoy some facet of our active arts community!
Uptown Italian
If you love Sangria, you should drop by the bar at Garibaldi Trattoria on N. Main Street (old Daniels on Main location) for a glass or two while you catch up on the evening news and unwind from the day. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and the Polpette alla Napoletana (homemade meatballs) appetizer and Di Mesculin salad are well worth the visit! If you prefer a fine wine, an exhaustive list is available to choose from. A short excursion down the road is Bellinis Fine Italian Dining, a white tablecloth establishment with a subtle, yet fresh style and wonderful wine pairings for dinner. This hidden gem in the Harris Teeter shopping center features wonderful seafood dishes in addition to more traditional Italian fare. Make sure you check the daily specials, which offer rich additions to the established menu selections. You might see the Mayor here, too!
Dinner on Tap
Looking for a more upbeat evening? Start on Broad Street at the Aviator Smokehouse and try their unique smoked wings in an array of sauces for every taste. The aviation-inspired décor is sure to entertain while you wait for your meal and relax after a long, busy week. After dinner, step next door to the Aviator Beer Store, where you can find many varieties of packaged craft beer and wine to suit any mood, and a full bar for an after-dinner drink. Mosey across the street to the Aviator Taphouse to sample more of Aviator Brewery’s craft beers while you enjoy the live entertainment by one of many local bands that frequent the Taphouse on Saturday nights. Make sure you leave time to walk a block north on Broad Street to Draftline Brewing Company, which also offers great live entertainment on the weekends, and a variety of food truck menus for those late evening snacks.
