Fire Station 4 Opening in March
Fuquay-Varina officials, along with partner agencies and local firefighters, will gather on March 21 for the grand opening of Fire Station 4 at 4821 Wade Nash Road. This event marks the culmination of a project aimed at improving emergency services in the area. The station’s strategic location will enhance response times in the Needmore Community and areas north and west of downtown Fuquay-Varina. Last year, the Fuquay-Varina Fire Department was the fourth busiest in Wake County, responding to 5,786 emergency calls.
The state-of-the-art facility, spanning 16,000 square feet, will house both the Fuquay-Varina Fire Department and Wake County Emergency Medical Services. It includes a separate decontamination building to prevent cancer-causing products from entering the main building where firefighters reside.
Station 4 not only signifies a new chapter in the department’s history but also honors its past, which spans over 40 years. Chief Jim Jones is pleased that the station will feature the Tony Mauldin History Room, named after the Town’s first paid fire chief from 2000 to 2022. Chief Jones stated, “This dedicated space commemorates Mauldin’s significant impact on the firehouse and the community. We are honored to name this history room after Tony since he was such a big part of our firehouses’ history.”
Successful Fuquay-Varina Economic Development Summit
In early February, Fuquay-Varina business leaders and residents came together at the Economic Development Summit to gain insights into the town’s current and future projects and economic development strategies.
The summit included a keynote address by Dr. Mike Walden and a fireside chat moderated by the town’s economic development director, Tiffany McNeill. This session also included input from the town’s economic development services directors Michael Wagner, Matthew Poling, and Pam Davison. The development team shared insights into the strategies and initiatives Fuquay-Varina is implementing to attract new businesses, support existing industries for long-term growth, and promote the establishment of high-quality job opportunities. These efforts are all geared toward fostering economic prosperity within the community.
Efficient transportation and infrastructure were identified as critical elements of the economic development strategy. Fuquay-Varina is set to embark on 17 transportation projects totaling around $40 million over the next two years. Additionally, substantial investments exceeding $300 million in water and wastewater infrastructure underscore the town’s commitment to ensuring ample capacity for current and future needs. Collaborative partnerships with neighboring municipalities are pivotal in these water and wastewater infrastructure investments, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to sustainable growth.
The summit concluded with a bus tour of approximately 50 of Fuquay-Varina’s new, existing, and upcoming projects. Major sponsors of the Economic Development Summit include the Fuquay-Varina Chamber, the Town of Fuquay-Varina, and Butler Homes.
