Town Wins Diamond Award for Black History Month Series
The “Fuquay-Varina Firsts, Celebrating Black History” video series received top accolades at the recent City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) Annual Conference.
The series won the prestigious first-place Savvy Award in the Education/Training Video category and was presented with 3CMA’s highest distinction, the Diamond Award, recognizing it as the best overall entry among the more than 875 submissions spanning various categories. Notably, the Town of Fuquay-Varina received a perfect score from the panel of judges, cementing its place as a national leader in local government communications.
The Black History Stakeholder’s Group is regularly meeting to find creative ways to celebrate Black History Month in February 2024. The goal of the group is to inform, educate, and make people aware of African American achievements, contributions, and history in Fuquay-Varina.
Town Breaks Ground on Community Center North
The highly anticipated Community Center North project began construction this fall. This multi-generational facility will feature three gymnasiums, an elevated indoor walking track, multi-purpose classrooms, fitness areas, a teaching kitchen, two racquetball courts, and a dedicated active adult wing. It is anticipated to open in early 2025.
Planning for this visionary project began in March 2021, when the town hired HH Architecture to design the two-story, 76,950-square-foot facility. The firm helped facilitate a robust community outreach program, ensuring the facility design truly reflected the aspirations of the community.
The collaboration effort between town officials, HH Architecture, and engaged citizens led to widespread approval for the design of Community Center North. In 2021, Fuquay-Varina residents showed further support by passing an $18.5 million Parks and Recreation Bond.
Community Center North is located at Hilltop Needmore Town Park and Preserve, a 143-acre park featuring 5 miles of paved walking trails.
