Find Your Community: Fuquay-Varina’s Active Adult Program
Fuquay-Varina is quickly becoming a haven for active adults (50+) seeking connection and community, fueled by a thriving Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources program. The Town’s commitment is evident in the newly opened Hilltop Needmore Town Park Community Center, which boasts a dedicated Active Adult Wing featuring classrooms, exercise spaces, and social areas. Programs also extend to the South Park Community Center, maximizing accessibility.

Police Achieve Third Accreditation
The Fuquay-Varina Police Department recently achieved North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation (NCLEA), further demonstrating its commitment to excellence. Chief Tim Smith accepted the award on August 15 at the North Carolina Education and Training Standards Commission in Raleigh. NCLEA focuses on standards specific to North Carolina law enforcement and requires a voluntary, independent review of departmental policies and procedures. This achievement builds upon the department’s existing national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and its regular participation in the North Carolina League of Municipalities Law Enforcement Risk Management Review. “Our participation in these programs reflects the Fuquay-Varina Police Department’s commitment to excellence,” stated Chief Smith.

Making a Difference: Fuquay-Varina Teen Council
Fuquay-Varina offers a dynamic opportunity for teens to develop leadership skills and make a difference through its Teen Council. Rising 7th-12th graders can become actively involved in shaping their community by volunteering at popular town events, such as the Tree Lighting and Haunted Trail, and coordinating service projects that benefit residents.
The Teen Council isn’t just about volunteering — it’s a place to build confidence, learn teamwork, and gain valuable experience in planning and executing projects. Members have the opportunity to voice their ideas, contribute to town initiatives, and develop skills that will benefit them in school, future careers, and beyond.
“I love giving teens a safe place to grow, succeed, and give back to the community,” shares Community Center Administrator Leslie Poole. Participant Lynx Boyd emphasizes the strong sense of community, saying, “We all come together because we care about Fuquay-Varina and want to see each other succeed.”
The Teen Council meets on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Learn more at FVParks.org.
