Herbert Akins Middle School—Approved
The town has approved a site plan for Herbert Akins Middle School, to be located at 2255 Herbert Akins Road. The new WCPSS school will include a 166,315-square-foot main building, 735-square-foot accessory building and athletic fields on the 43.83-acre campus shared with Herbert Akins Elementary School. An early projection estimates the school will open in 2022.
8250 Fayetteville Rd Retail—Proposed
A site plan is in review for a proposed retail building at 8250 Fayetteville Road. The site includes a 9,450-square-foot building with 51 parking spaces on 1.43 acres.
East of Broad—Proposed
Construction plans are in review for the placement of infrastructure at East of Broad, to be located at 1900 and 1924 N. Broad Street. This form-based development will include 5 commercial lots and 0.55 acres of civic space on 8.533 acres.
FuQuay Brus—Open
This “coffee café,” a sister location to Drive Bru, opened at 400 Broad Street and features hot, cold, and frozen varieties of coffee, as well as bubble beverages, tea, and freshly baked sweet or savory versions of a wide array of treats. They have scones and turnovers, mini bread loaves and cinnamon rolls, brownies and cookies, cannoli, eclairs, cream puffs, and more. Feel like a little frosting? Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa—Coming Soon
The popular national chain is opening this summer in Fuquay Crossing shopping center at 1441 East Broad Street, Suite A-012 (in a portion of the space that was once Yellow House Gifts). In their new 2,500-square-foot spa, Hand & Stone will offer facials for women, men, and teens, as well as a variety of massages, including oncology-, prenatal-, and sports-centered options. Torrenti Cycles—Open
Known for their mobile bicycle repair service, Torrenti Cycles expanded their business in March when they opened a brick-and-mortar shop at 1311 N. Main Street. While still offering their mobile service, the new space lets them expand their ability to do repairs, evaluations, custom builds, cleaning, adjustments and tune-ups. They do free estimates and they work on kids’ bikes, too!
US Veterans Corps Operations Center—Proposed
A site plan is in review for US Veterans Corps Operations Center, to be located at 2538 Waco Commercial Court. The proposed plan includes a 3,458-square-foot building with 11 parking spaces on 2.48 acres.
